Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to leave your current job and put all your talent and experience into starting your own company?

That might be a difficult thing to imagine for some folks, especially in present circumstances.

Whether done out of necessity or simple determination, it’s no easy step to take, but that’s exactly what Jessica did. And now she’s graciously shared some of her own wisdom and experience for us here.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your favorite creative activities:

I am 10 years into my graphic design career, I have done everything from large format and events in the agency side to small format, business branding in the corporate side of design. I am a wife and mother of one. Once I had my daughter, I decided not to go back to work full time and start my own business. Running my own business is the ideal fit for me; mostly because I can make my own schedule. I enjoy the control of my schedule to make time for my family and the things we enjoy doing; off roading, hiking, spending time outside, and finding adventure wherever we go. Those are the ways I stay creative, finding places where I can have a clear mind.

When do you find it easiest to be creative?

My best time to be creative is at night. For some reason my mind just goes, I tend to be a bit of a night owl. Part of me thinks it's because no one can both me, no emails, no meetings and no calls.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I typically start with Pinterest! I love the creativity, designs and ideas that people share there. It seems more upscale than a typical Google search. I do lean on Google for more generic things or examples of projects. Sometimes I just look to brands I like or at advertisements I see in the real world. I pay close attention to how others market and utilize design everywhere I go.

What is one suggestion you would give to someone who wants to further develop their creativity?

Just do it, try anything. Be creative and let things just flow, there is no wrong when being creative. Be inspired by others, use ideas, take subtle design elements and expand. Take advantage of every opportunity you can when you start. Some projects may seem pointless and some may seem weird but all these projects will help you experiment and expand your knowledge.

Where can people find you or your work?

I have a website that has a lot of my work displayed there for my business, nakedeyedesign.com. You can also find me on Pinterest and Linkedin.
